Klickit partnered with Solon Security — one of the UK’s longest-standing and most trusted suppliers of crime prevention and community safety products — to plan, design and build a modern, scalable website that accurately represented the breadth of their expertise and product range.
With over 30 years supporting public sector organisations, police forces, universities and community groups, Solon needed a digital platform that reflected their established reputation while providing clarity, accessibility and commercial responsiveness for a diverse audience. Solon’s product catalog spans personal safety devices, burglary protection, CCTV and lighting, energy efficiency tools, key safes and specialist target hardening solutions. They also provide extensive product literature, frameworks for professional procurement and tailored safety advice for organisations across the UK. The aim of the project was to evolve Solon’s online presence into a structured, content-rich website that supports product discovery, promotes trust and expertise, and makes complex product information easily navigable. Klickit was engaged to lead the full digital build — from planning and information architecture through UX design and front-end development — with a focus on transforming the product catalogue into a user-friendly and future-ready platform. This involved consolidating a wide range of product categories, integrating downloadable technical brochures, and showcasing featured products, all within a cohesive design system that supports ongoing content growth and search-optimised product pages.

/The Process/
A critical early phase was planning and structuring the project so that the new platform could support Solon’s key audiences, including trade customers, safety teams and professional procurement buyers, while also improving usability for general visitors seeking safety solutions online.
A critical early phase was planning and structuring the project so that the new platform could support Solon’s key audiences, including trade customers, safety teams and professional procurement buyers, while also improving usability for general visitors seeking safety solutions online.
With a large and varied product set, we needed a clear and scalable information architecture to guide users quickly to relevant categories and detailed product content. This meant thinking beyond a simple “shop listing” experience and designing a site that feels like a safety resource as much as a supplier catalogue. Through discovery and planning workshops, Klickit worked with Solon to define user goals and organisational priorities. Together we mapped out the new site’s structure, delineating product categories such as crime prevention, personal protection, burglary protection, CCTV & lighting, and specialist target hardening solutions. We also planned dedicated sections for product brochures, news and insights to support Solon’s thought leadership in community safety. This detailed planning ensured that every page — from high-level category views to individual product details — was positioned to answer a user’s need with clarity, and built on a system that could scale as Solon continues to introduce new products and initiatives.

/The Result/
Once the sitemap and UX strategy were agreed, Klickit moved into design and development with a focus on performance, clarity and commercial usefulness. The visual system was designed to feel authoritative and trustworthy, supporting Solon’s role as a supplier to major organisations and community safety teams, while keeping interfaces clean and navigable for all users.

The visual system was designed to feel authoritative and trustworthy, supporting Solon’s role as a supplier to major organisations and community safety teams, while keeping interfaces clean and navigable for all users.
The development phase brought together structured data for products, integrated brochure downloads, and clear pathways for users to request quotes or contact the sales team. Throughout the project, Kollckit maintained close collaboration with Solon’s internal team — reviewing design iterations, refining category interactions, and testing product displays on desktop and mobile. Regular feedback cycles ensured that both functionality and visual tone met the expectations set out in the planning phase. The end result was a consolidated, user-focused website that supports Solon’s operational goals: presenting a large, varied product set with clear navigation; promoting credibility through featured content and customer feedback; and enabling users to find, understand and engage with the products and services Solon is known for. The platform now provides a strong digital foundation for Solon Security’s continued growth as a market-leading safety supplier.
